Spotlight: Bernice Mason

We want to thank you so much Bernice Mason for your donation of 26 children's books to our new Early Childhood Education program.

No photo description available.Bernice Mason is a long-time York, Nebraska, resident with a heart of gold for children and literacy. These books are the first donation to the new licensure program that received approval from the Nebraska Department of Education in August 2024.

Bernice taught in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Bradshaw, NE, before her long legacy of 34 years as the Children’s Librarian at York Public Library. She has truly touched the hearts of generations of children through reading. However, she told Dr. Cheryl Couch that she is most proud of graduating from York College at the age of 73 with her bachelor’s degree. Bernice will be celebrating her 104th birthday on October 25th . We wish her a very happy birthday and a continued legacy of inspiring children through literacy!
