GRADUATE ASSISTANT PROGRAM

Purpose

The purpose of the Graduate Assistant Program is to employ qualified students in York University Master's level programs to provide those students with relevant work experience as they pursue their Master’s degree and to add capable employees to York University’s staff in areas of need or targeted strategic growth.

Academic Benefit Limitations: The academic benefit (tuition discount) does not exceed more than 12 courses. Students who are not academically successful, take an unrecommended break, are dropped for not attending, or who are removed from the course for any reason (including academic discipline or extenuating circumstances) will be required to pay the full price of tuition at that time to retake a course. Students who would like additional concentrations above the initial 12 courses will need to pay for the coursework at full-tuition price.

On campus housing is based on availability. Students will sign a waiver refusing housing or accepting housing if available. Housing is assigned by gender. Once housing provided is at capacity for one gender a waitlist will be established for the school year. To be added to the waitlist GAs must have been announced to the proper offices as having made it fully through the hiring process, fully academically accepted into the graduate program, and properly announced by the SLT member. It is the responsibility of the GA to get their name on the waitlist. Students who live on campus must abide by the on-campus Housing Policy.
