Tucson, Arizona, US
Part-Time (hours are flexible)
  • Apprenticeship

The Well Pastoral Residency is a two-year compensated apprenticeship designed for recent college graduates who desire to grow as ministers in a diverse state college setting, supported by guidance from a mentor and a collaborative, encouraging team.

Next year, The Well will invite two new residents, one male and one female, to join our team at the University of Arizona, dedicating 20 hours per week to ministry and coaching. The remaining 20 hours a week leaves space for remote seminary, grad school, or part time work in the community.

These new residents will join our two current second-year senior residents, forming a cohort of four under supervision and mentorship. Each residency year runs from August 1 through May 31, providing an immersive experience for growth in both ministry skills and spiritual formation.

Key duties and tasks associated with this role:

  • Participate in a 20-hour/week pastoral residency focused on campus ministry, leadership development, and spiritual formation
  • Build discipling relationships with university students through pastoral care, mentoring, and spiritual conversations
  • Facilitate Discovery Bible Studies, guiding students in communal Scripture reading and application
  • Assist in preaching, teaching, and worship leadership under direct mentorship with ongoing feedback and training
  • Support campus outreach efforts including evangelism, student invitations, and event-based ministry
  • Help plan and execute ministry events, retreats, and community-building gatherings
  • Provide informal pastoral care to students navigating faith exploration and life challenges
  • Engage in cohort-based formation through weekly mentoring, reflection, and leadership development sessions
  • Participate in theological training in pastoral care, intercultural ministry, and spiritual formation
  • Contribute to a diverse, outward-focused campus ministry centered on Scripture, community, and discipleship

Additional information: The Well Campus Ministry was planted at the University of Arizona in December 2022 and in just a few short years, God has grown this ministry in depth of heart, community, and faith. From the very beginning, we made a simple commitment: we would create a space of genuine welcome. A place where students can come as they are, wherever they are on their spiritual journey. A place where questions are welcomed, curiosity is encouraged, and every person is treated with care, respect, and dignity. That commitment remains at the center of everything we do. Today, The Well is made up of a diverse community of University of Arizona students from many backgrounds and at many different stages of faith. Some are deeply rooted in their Christian walk, others are exploring faith for the first time, and many are somewhere in between. Because of this, we intentionally plan every gathering, conversation, and event so that anyone can walk in and feel comfortable participating. Students often describe The Well as their “safe space.” Nothing brings us more joy than hearing that. Our hope is that every student who enters finds a community marked by warmth, thoughtful conversation, and authentic friendship. At the heart of The Well is the good news of God’s grace available to all in Jesus Christ. Together we seek to thoughtfully and honestly explore that grace, trusting that when people encounter it, lives are blessed and God is glorified. The Well deeply appreciates our roots in the Church of Christ heritage, but is comprised of students coming from many different backgrounds.
